Jack Straws Lane Nursery

Jack Straws Lane Nursery - (1 of 1)

All areas, including the garden, are fully wheelchair and pushchair accessible.   Parents will have a chance to look around the nursery before enrolling their children, so please inform the staff then of any access needs you may have.

Please bear in mind that this is a nursery, so some play areas may be a little messy.  Watch out for little fingers and toes, and close all doors behind you!

There are two disabled parking spaces available in the nursery car park, at the end of Jack Straws Lane.  The car park can get very busy at peak times, so please advise the staff of any particular access needs.  Contact St Hilda’s College in advance on 01865 276884 to reserve parking spaces.

The main entrance door is level access, but is not powered.  To reach the main entrance from the car park, head towards the right hand side of the paved area in front of the building (on the right of the planting), and the door will be on your right. (The left hand entrance to the building is used by students of St Hilda’s college, who share part of the building with the nursery).

Please ring the doorbell, and a member of staff will come and let you into the building.

There is no reception, but the nursery office is near to the main entrance.

There is one disabled toilet in the building.  From the main entrance, turn right through the ‘Play Street’ area, and follow the corridor on your right towards the back of the building.

All internal doors are fire doors with full length vision panels.  Doors may be coded for staff-only access, and door handles are placed high up out of the reach of the children.  Please ask the staff if you have trouble reaching any door handles.  Doors in the building are not designed to be opened easily, so some catches and locks are fiddly, and the doors leading to the garden are quite heavy.  Again, please ask the nursery staff for help if you need it.

Both entrance routes to the garden are ramped, and the garden itself is a mixture of wheel-friendly paving, lawn, and soft tarmac.  The ramp from the playroom has handrails on both sides, and the ramp from the cloakroom has a rail on the right hand side (descending).
