There is step free access to the entrance. The entrance doors are powered. There is an accessible toilet on every floor. There is lift access to all floors apart from the mezzanine level above the second floor. There are three bookable accessible parking bays outside the adjacent Radcliffe Humanities Building. There is a portable infra-red hearing support system available for meeting rooms.

There are three parking spaces for Blue Badge holders available. These spaces are in front of the adjacent Radcliffe Humanities Building and are a short distance from the entrance to Radcliffe Primary Care Building. There is a sign in place to indicate the accessible spaces, but there are no floor markings to show where the spaces are or to give a protected transfer space. 

Please contact the department in advance to book one of these spaces.

There is level entry into the building and the doors are powered. This is a secure entrance opened with a proximity card or by using the intercom to contact a member of staff. The card reader is 1 m high and the intercom button is 1.2 m high. Once inside, there is an entrance lobby and a second secure door with a card reader that is 1.2 m high - this door is also powered. The entrance doors are both just over 1 m wide. 

There are two wide doorways leading to the spacious atrium - both doors are held open. From here there is step free access around the ground floor, and lift access to the upper floors (although not the mezzanine level).

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there is currently no reception in the building. Visitors are advised to contact in advance if visiting for the first time. 

There are gender neutral toilets on every floor of the building. 

There is an accessible toilet on every floor of the building:

Ground floor

  • Toilet and shower room
  • The door width is 78 cm
  • The door is locked by a small level lock
  • The lights switch on automatically
  • There is a horizontal grab rail on the door
  • Toilet seat is 48 cm high
  • The cistern is usable as a back rest
  • The flush is a spatula type lever and is on the transfer side
  • As you face the toilet the transfer space is to the left
  • There is a dropdown rail on the transfer side. There are wall mounted grab rails
  • There are vertical rails either side of the sink
  • There is good visual contrast between the walls and the handrails and other fixtures
  • The hand dryer requires users to insert their hands in the top of the dryer
  • There are coat hooks on the door at standing and wheelchair accessible heights
  • There is a mirror above the sink as well as a full height mirror
  • There is an emergency alarm
  • There is a drop down shower seat
  • The shower has a dropdown rail on the transfer side. There are wall mounted grab rails

 

First floor

  • Manual door into toilet lobby is 80 cm wide and is fairly heavy to open
  • Door width into accessible toilet is 80 cm, but the clear width is slightly less due to the grab rail on the back of the door
  • The door is locked by a small lever lock
  • The lights switch on automatically
  • There is a horizontal grab rail on the door
  • Toilet seat is 48 cm high
  • The cistern is usable as a back rest
  • The flush is a spatula type lever and is on the transfer side
  • As you face the toilet the transfer space is to the left
  • There is a dropdown rail on the transfer side. There are wall mounted grab rails
  • There are vertical rails either side of the sink

There is a passenger lift to all floors apart from the mezzanine level.

 

  • The lift doors are 89 cm wide.
  • The lift dimensions are 105 cm x  140 cm.
  • The lift call button is 100 cm high.
  • The lift control buttons are between 90 cm and 105 cm high.
  • The lift control buttons are tactile but do not have Braille.
  • There is a visual display and an audible announcement of the floor level.
  • There is a handrail one side of the lift.
  • There is a full height mirror on the wall opposite the lift doors.

There is a staircase at either end of the building. Both staircases have steps with high contrast edges and handrails both sides. Handrails are continuous although only go around the landings on one side only. Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, there is a one-way system in place with one staircase to go up, and the other to go down. There are signs in place to indicate this. 

The mezzanine level has stepped access only. There is a staircase at either end of the mezzanine. Both staircases have steps with high contrast edges and continuous handrails both sides including the landings. 

There are two steps up to the Panelled Room (small meeting room). These steps do not have contrasting edges or handrails.

The entrance doors are powered. There are powered doors to one of the office areas on the ground floor, the common room and the toilets on the second floor. All other doors are manual. Doors are all at least 80 cm wide with the exception of the accessible toilet on the ground floor which is 78 cm wide. Doors are generally tall and heavy to use. Doors in corridors are held open.  Most doors have full height vision panels.

There are two meeting rooms on the ground floor near the main entrance. There is step free access into both rooms. The doors are both 88 cm wide and are light to use. There is plenty of manoeuvring space in both rooms. There is a central table in both rooms with chairs that can be rearranged as needed.

The Panelled Room is also on the ground floor. This is a small meeting room. There are two steps up to this room - the steps do not have contrasting edges or handrails. 

There is a portable infra-red hearing support system available for meeting rooms. The department will provide headsets with either earbuds or a loop.

The door into the common room is powered and has a clear width of 84 cm.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic the common room is not in use and was not covered during the access audit of the building (August 2020).
