There is no access for vehicles to the college main site. There is some parking at the Liddell Building.
Students who need a car should discuss this with the college in advance

Main Entrance

  • There is step free access to the main entrance on Merton Street 
  • The pavement outside is ramped
  • One of the gates is left open during the day 
  • At night access is through a wicket gate
  • The wicket gate has a lintel which is 14 cm high
  • The wicket gate opens to 82 cm
  • The access control for the wicket gate is 114 cm from the floor
  • There is a bell and intercom outside the college
  • The bell is 114 cm from the floor
  • The intercom is 110 cm from the floor
  • The Porters will open the main gate for anyone unable to manage the wicket gate
  • There are powered gates giving access into Front Quad
  • The access controls for these gates are 760 mm and 890 mm from the floor

Liddell Building

  • There is step free access from Iffley Road onto this site
  • There is a slope from the pavement to the gate
  • The gate is powered
  • The gate opens to 109 cm
  • The access control is 110 cm from the floor
  • The keypad is between 96 cm and 108 cm from the floor
  • The bell is 132 cm from the floor
  • Inside the gate the access control is 115 cm from the floor
  • The keypad is between 103 cm and 111 cm from the floor

Lodge

  • There is step free access to the lodge from Front Quad
  • There is a ramp from Front Quad up to the lodge door which is quite steep

  • The exit push button inside the Lodge is between 83 cm and 92 cm from the floor
  • There is also a stepped entrance into the Lodge

  • The Porters are on duty 24 hours a day and are happy to assist anyone with access

Pigeonholes

  • The Porters will hold the post for anyone unable to manage the pigeonholes

  • Some features such as high contrast between the rails and the walls, easy-to-use door handles and easy reach sinks may not be in place

There are currently no lifts at Corpus Christi. At the time of the audit a project had started to install a lift in the Library. This work will be completed in summer 2024.

  • The college has several different building styles and staircases.
  • Some are older than others and some are more accessible than others
  • Some have contrasting edges and handrails but not all of them do

Corpus Christi has buildings of various different ages and therefore a variety of different doors.
There are powered doors in the following locations:

  • Porters’ Lodge
  • Gates into Front Quad
  • Entrance Gate Liddell Building

Some of the doors in the college are heavy and some people may need help.
Some of the doors have door knobs and some are opened by using keys.

  • There is step free access from this Quad into the garden via a steep portable ramp 
  • The surface of this Quad is paved and level

This Quad contains:

  • Accessible Toilet
  • Chapel
  • MCR
  • Accommodation

Gentlemen Commoners Quad

  • There is step free access to this Quad from Cloister Quad
  • There is a rounded threshold on the route 
  • The surface of this Quad is paved
  • There is a gentle ramp giving access to the building door

This Quad contains:

  • Accessible Bedroom
  • Accommodation

Lecture Hall Quad

  • There is step free access to this Quad via Cloister Quad
  • There is step free access from the Fellows’ Garden 
  • The surface of this Quad is paved
  • The surface slopes gently towards the Lecture Hall door
  • The terrace can only be reached by using stairs from this Quad

This Quad contains:

  • Accessible toilet
  • Lecture Hall
  • Rainolds Room
  • Accommodation

Liddell Building

  • There is step free access into this Quad
  • The footpaths are paved
  • The footpaths are level and in good repair
  • There is step free access onto the grass in some areas 

This Quad contains:

  • Accommodation
  • Common rooms

Fellow’s Garden

  • There is stepped access from the Lecture Hall Quad
  • There is step free access to and from the Handa roof terrace from the Fellows’ Garden
  • The footpath around the garden has a lightly gravelled surface
  • There is a metal threshold along the edge of the grass

Library Access Project

  • A lift is being installed in the Library
  • This will give step free access to the First Floor
  • The building work is due to finish in summer 2024

Current Access

  • There is step free access from Front Quad to the ground floor only
  • There is a bell with a pushpad 
  • The librarians answer the bell and open this door for anyone unable to manage steps 
  • The bell pushpad is 102 cm from the floor
  • This door opens to 80 cm
  • Inside the door there is a short steep temporary ramp
  • The Library staff and Porters are happy to assist anyone to access the Library
  • The librarians also provide a book retrieval service

First Floor

  • The door opens to 86 cm
  • The security gates are 86 cm wide
  • The reception desk is 74 cm from the floor
  • The book return drawer is 84 cm from the floor
  • The desks attached to the library shelving are 90 cm from the floor 
  • The underside of the computer desk is 65 cm from the floor
  • The desktop is 68 cm from the floor

The Library has the following study aids which can be loaned to students:

  • Book rests

Morelli Teaching Room

  • There is step free access through the Dining Hall
  • Otherwise this room is reached by using stairs
  • The main door has opens to 82 cm 
  • The access control is between 112 cm and 115 cm from the floor
  • The underside of the table is 70 cm from the floor
  • The table top is 73 cm from the floor
  • There is space to manoeuvre a wheelchair in this room
  • If anyone is unable to access this room the College will book an alternative room

Rainolds room

  • This room has step free access
  • The building door opens to 104 cm
  • This room has two sets of double doors
  • Each leaf of the double doors opens to 73 cm 
  • The outer set of doors have hold open devices 
  • The doors are unlocked using a key and have a doorknob 
  • The Porters are happy to assist anyone unable to manage these doors
  • The underside of the table is 75 cm from the floor 
  • The table top is 77 cm from the floor
  • The carpet in this room has a medium pile
  • There is space to manoeuvre a wheelchair in this room

Lecture Hall

Lecture Hall Teaching Space

  • The door to this room opens to 80 cm

Dining Hall

  • Access is through a wicket door in the building door
  • The wicket door has a lintel which is 14 cm high
  • The staff will open the main door for anyone unable to manage the lintel

  • There is a pushbutton bell which can be used to call for help
  • This pushbutton is between 98 cm and 110 cm from the floor
  • The dining hall doors open to 96 cm
  • These doors are held open at mealtimes

  • The college have a portable ramp for the dais

Servery

  • The doors to the servery are sliding doors
  • These are always kept open at mealtimes

  • The servery has a one-way system in place
  • The staff are happy to help anyone unable to manage the servery
